The short version
Jack Hunt Coin Broker Inc. (“we”, “us”, “our”) does use advertising and marketing cookies on goldsilverbuffalo.com, and you can decline them. The notice you see when you first arrive asks you to confirm that you are a retail customer and gives you two buttons: one accepts everything, the other declines the advertising and marketing cookies and lets you in anyway. Nothing in that group loads, and none of it sets a cookie, unless you accept it.
We measure site traffic with a privacy-focused analytics tool that sets no cookies and never identifies individual visitors. That one runs whichever button you choose, because there is nothing in it to switch off. The remaining cookies are there to remember that you entered the site, to remember the choice you made, to keep the site secure, and to make our forms work.
Analytics
We use Fathom Analytics to understand how many people visit the site and which pages are useful. Fathom is designed for privacy and works differently from conventional analytics:
- It sets no cookies and uses no device fingerprinting.
- It does not create a profile of you and cannot follow you to other websites.
- It records anonymous, aggregated information only: page views, referring site, approximate country, browser and device type.
- Your IP address is used momentarily to derive an approximate location and is never stored.
- The data is not sold, shared or used for advertising.
Because this measurement collects no personal information and sets no cookies, it runs on every visit and there is nothing to switch off. We tell you it is running rather than asking you to consent to something that cannot identify you.
Advertising and marketing
This is the part the entry notice actually asks you about. We advertise online, and these tools tell us which advertising is worth paying for. None of them loads, and none of them sets a cookie, until you choose “Accept all”. If you decline, they are never requested at all — they are not loaded and then told to behave.
- Google Tag Manager — the container through which we manage the tags below.
- Google Ads — measures whether an advertisement led to a call or an enquiry, and allows advertisements to be shown to people who have visited the site.
- CallRail — attributes telephone calls to the advertisement, search or page that produced them, by showing a different telephone number to different visitors. If you decline, you simply see our ordinary number, and we lose the attribution rather than your call.
- Chatbase — an assistant that loads only for people signed in to the site, which in practice means our own staff.
We also use Google Consent Mode, which tells Google’s tags that advertising and analytics storage are denied until you say otherwise. We go further than that signal requires: before you accept, the tags are not loaded at all.
Cookies this site uses
| Cookie | Purpose | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
popupCookieStep1 | Remembers that you confirmed you are a retail customer, so the entry notice is not shown on every page. | Up to 400 days |
gsbCookieConsent | Records which of the two buttons you chose, so we know whether advertising and marketing cookies are allowed. | Up to 365 days |
gsbConsentId | A random identifier with no personal information in it, used to link your choice to our record of it. | Up to 400 days |
gsbEmbedYouTube | Records that you have allowed embedded videos to load, so you are not asked again on every video. | Up to 365 days |
| Google advertising cookies | Only after you choose “Accept all.” Set by Google Tag Manager and Google Ads to measure advertising and to show advertisements to people who have visited the site. | Set and controlled by Google — see Google’s cookie notice |
| CallRail cookies | Only after you choose “Accept all.” Show a tracked telephone number and tie a resulting call back to the visit that produced it. | Set and controlled by CallRail |
| Form and security cookies | Set while you are using our forms — including by Cloudflare Turnstile, the check that tells a genuine visitor from an automated submission — and while an administrator is signed in. | Session to 1 day |
The first four are set by us and are strictly necessary: without them the entry notice would reappear on every page and we could not honour the choice you made. The form and security cookies are necessary too. Everything in the middle of the table is optional, and it is what the “Decline” button switches off.
We also keep a record of the choice you made — the choice itself, the date, the page you were on, your browser’s user-agent string, the version of this policy in force, and the random identifier above. It is our proof of what you were asked and what you answered. It deliberately does not include your IP address, and it is deleted automatically after 36 months.
Live precious-metals prices in the ticker at the top of most pages are supplied by nFusion Solutions. The ticker is part of how the site works, so it is not something we ask you about.
Similar technologies
Some notices use your browser’s session storage rather than a cookie. When we show a customer alert as you enter the site, we record that you have seen it under popupStep2Seen so it is not repeated on every page. Session storage is cleared automatically when you close your browser, is readable only by this site, and contains no personal information.
Embedded videos
Some articles include videos hosted on YouTube, and YouTube can set its own cookies as soon as its player loads. So we do not load it. In place of the video you will see a short notice naming YouTube and a button to load it, and nothing at all is requested from YouTube until you press that button.
If you do press it, we remember your answer in the gsbEmbedYouTube cookie so you are not asked again on every video, and you can undo that at any time with the Cookie Preferences link in the footer. Choosing “Accept all” on the entry notice also allows videos to load.
Once loaded, videos use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). If you then play a video, YouTube (a Google service) may set its own cookies and will receive information about that playback. That happens under Google’s terms, not ours — see Google’s Privacy Policy.
Forms and email
When you submit a form (an appointment request, a valuation enquiry, a contact message), we receive the information you typed and, where relevant, pass it to the services that process it for us, such as our email delivery provider or our mailing-list provider if you asked to be added. This is information you chose to give us, not information gathered by cookies, and it is covered by our Privacy Policy.
Controlling cookies
On this site. The Cookie Preferences link in the footer of every page reopens the entry notice, so you can change your answer in either direction at any time. Declining also withdraws any permission you have given to load embedded videos, and reloads the page so that anything already running is removed.
Global Privacy Control. If your browser or an extension sends a GPC signal and you have not made a choice yourself, we treat it as declining the advertising and marketing cookies. If you later choose “Accept all” yourself, that choice takes precedence, as the law allows.
In your browser. Most browsers accept cookies by default. You can remove or block them in your browser settings, and you can delete any cookies already stored. Because the first four cookies above are functional, blocking them may mean the entry notice reappears on every page and that your choice is not remembered.
Browser instructions: Safari · Chrome · Edge · Firefox
Industry opt-out tools. Tools such as the Network Advertising Initiative’s Opt-Out Tool are aimed at advertising cookies generally. Declining on this site already stops ours; that tool is a further, browser-wide control that also covers other websites.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date above. We encourage you to review it periodically.
